The Myth of Pandora

Pandora’s Box

In Greek mythology, Pandora’s Box is mentioned as a curious gift from the gods. The myth tells us that the Titan Prometheus stole fire from the Gods of Olympus to give it to men. Zeus decided to punish the Titan for this act by chaining him to a rock, however, Zeus had another plan. The «God of Thunder» ordered Hephaestus to create a very beautiful woman, naming her «Pandora».

Endowed by the gods Hermes, Aphrodite, Athena and Hera, Pandora was brought to Earth by order of Zeus, taking her to the Titan Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus. However, the woman was given a gold box with precious stones, with the condition of never opening it. Time passed and Pandora, very curious, decided to open the box. Out of it came all the evils, disease, envy, hatred, old age, she closed the box immediately and there was only one thing left inside, «hope».
